The Airdrie Festival of Lights was started in 1996 by Stan Softley, an alderman and community volunteer. He formed a small group of dedicated individuals with a common goal, of providing the best Outdoor Christmas Light Display for families to enjoy. That group grew over the years to become the Airdrie Festival of Lights Society, which has continued to operate the Festival. The Festival Society is an independent body that manages and operates the Festival with the help of hundreds of passionate volunteers.

Their mission is to provide an affordable, family-friendly Christmas Festival of Lights experience for the people of Southern Alberta which is suitable for all ages! At the same time provide a venue in which non-profit organizations can raise funds for their activities.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

Authority:  The Boards of Directors are the legal authority for the Airdrie Festival of Lights Society and the Airdrie Festival of Lights Foundation.  As a member of the Board, the Board Treasurer acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization.

Reports to: AFOLS Board of Directors

General Duties:

-        Serves on the Executive Committee

-        Keeps full and accurate accounts of all organizational receipts and disbursements

-        Receives and banks all monies due to the organization

-        Disburses all monies as directed by the Board

-        Gives regular reports to the Board on the financial state of the organization

-        Keeps financial reports on file

-        Chairs the Finance Committee

-        Prepares and monitors overall budget with Finance Committee

-        Acts as one of the signing officers for cheques and other documents

-        Files necessary financial reports, tax reports and audits

-        Works with the Executive committee to produce annual financial reports

-        prepares and monitors cash handling policies & procedures for donations during the Festival, including float preparation, revenue tracking, and financial deposits

-        Orients the new Treasurer

Requirements  include:

-        Commitment to the mandates of the organization, and all other requirements outlined in the general Director Job Description

Time Commitment:  The Board Treasurer should expect to commit six to eight hours a month of volunteer time from February through October; from November through January, they should expect to commit 10 to 20 hours per month on directorship duties.

Term:  The Board Treasurer is elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting, and sits for a two year term. The Board Treasurer may be released at the end of the elected term, by resigning, or according to the AFOLS bylaws.

Evaluation: The Board Treasurer’s performance is evaluated annually based on the performance of assigned Board requirements and duties.
