Financial Analyst

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position will play a key role in the interpretation, implementation and disclosure of complex accounting issues, new accounting pronouncements and meeting external reporting requirements for the organization.  Initially, this role will primarily focus on implementation of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) 15, 16 and 9.  This role will be required to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all organizational levels.    

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform research and interpretation of new IFRS pronouncements and assess the impact on the Company's financial statements and accounting policies;
  • Drive the implementation of new accounting standards and pronouncements, including the development of required documentation;
  • Draft the interpretation and application of complex accounting decisions for the Company, including writing whitepapers and working with various business groups to assess underlying issues and facts;
  • Build relationships and interact with other key members of the Corporate Accounting & Reporting and Finance teams (including the US), senior management, Legal, Investor Relations and external auditors.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Company’s quarterly/annual consolidated financial statements and Management Discussion & Analysis documents;
  • Provide support for the preparation of documents required to be filed on SEDAR, including the Annual Information Form and Information Circular and assisting in the preparation and review of additional company filings, such as the Earnings Release;
  • Provide support in the Coordination with management, business owners, legal and accounting teams in drafting various sections of external filings and coordinate the review of the filings with Disclosure Committee members, key executives, audit committee and external auditors;
  • Assist the Investor Relations team with shareholder reporting, including the compilation of data, proofing, memos, etc.;
  • Assist in reviewing and communicating significant transactions and agreements to identify key elements impacting accounting or financial statement presentation;
  • Assist in the establishment and maintenance of financial policies and procedures to ensure proper accounting standards and controls;
  • Prepare, review and reconcile various schedules for month end and quarter end financial reporting close process (e.g. stock based compensation, equity, ARO, Impairment, fair value assessment, acquisitions and divestitures, subsequent events);
  • Assist with analyzing financial statements on a monthly and quarterly basis and report on variances;
  • Assist tax and corporate reporting department in the preparation of legal entity financial statements;
  • May perform special accounting and reporting projects as needed and/or other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Essential Work Experience):

  • University certificate or degree in a related field with an accounting designation (CPA, CA)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ post qualification experience in a financial reporting position with progressive responsibilities.  Previous IFRS experience with a big four accounting firm is a must.
  • External reporting experience required, including preparation of quarterly/annual documents.
  • Strong accounting system computer skills, i.e., Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Dynamics AX.
