Senior Financial Analyst, Accounting Services

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Financial Analyst to join our Accounting Services team. This position is responsible for a number of accounting functions including approving accounting transactions, providing expert level analysis to financial statement disclosures, and preparing quarterly working papers. The successful candidate will also work closely with the Division Manager to help identify opportunities to introduce new efficiencies into work processes.

The successful candidate holds their Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and has a thorough knowledge of financial systems and reporting.


Your Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare account reconciliations and financial information for quarterly reporting, and ensure all information is accurate and complete

  • Review revenue and expense information, and provide thoughtful variance analysis on areas of concern or key business changes that are impacting operations.

  • Prepare stakeholder reporting as required. This includes detailed analysis of member experience, semi-annual Chief Financial Officer (CFO) updates and financial highlights.

  • Involvement in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) updates and changes affecting the organization. This includes conducting accounting research on upcoming standards, developing white papers on key impacts and changes, and supporting the team in implementing accounting changes to the financial statements.

  • Prepare note disclosures, financial statements and annual information requirements

  • Prepare budgets and forecasting tools to support the organization in the annual budget process. This includes variance analysis on budget to actuals, and budget to forecast changes.

  • Represent the accounting group on Operational Excellence committees, which review overall efficiency and process improvement initiatives throughout the organization.

  • Support division manager and CFO as required

  • Provide support and coaching to junior accounting staff.

  • Cross-train and provide coverage for other roles within the Accounting Services team.

  • Test new applications, fixes and patches in a variety of scenarios to determine the results and identify their impact on the Accounting Services team.


Your Education & Experience

  • Completion of a university degree and a CPA designation.

  • Five to ten years of related experience.

A combination of education and experience may be considered.


Your Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting, preferably with prior exposure to IFRS reporting.

  • Strong technical accounting skills.

  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Excel.

  • Detail oriented with strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills.

  • The ability to organize work flow and priorities to meet varied needs and requests.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer services skill with an ability to communicate with various stakeholders.

  • Strong written and verbal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate financial terms and process to a varied audience.

  • Experience with financial management systems and an ability to work with multiple systems.

  • Microsoft Dynamics GP experience considered an asset.
