Manager, Financial Reporting

Purpose of Role:

To contribute to the success of MEG Energy by providing leadership and technical oversight for all aspects of MEG’s external financial reporting, including responsibility for Consolidated Financial Statements and Management Discussion and Analysis (“MD&A”), accounting research, peer analysis, plus oversight and coordination of the Corporation’s internal controls over financial reporting and disclosure controls.

 Key Responsibilities:             

  • Directly lead a small group of strong financial professionals
  • Key role in larger Finance organization of +40 employees
  • Responsible for the preparation of quarterly and annual Consolidated Financial Statements and MD&A disclosures, including participation in Executive Management reviews and Audit Committee presentation thereof
  • Primary liaison with external auditors
  • Responsible for regular peer analysis and benchmarking activities with respect to financial disclosures
  • Responsible for CSOX requirements including designing and implementing process change to accommodate changing business needs
  • Provide overview of impact of new accounting pronouncements on the Corporation’s business
  • Coordinate initiatives between financial reporting and other relevant areas of the business
  • Seeking continuous improvement of controls and streamlining processes

Qualifications:

  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA – CA) strongly preferred

Skills and Knowledge:           

  • 15+ years of post-designation experience in the Canadian oil and gas industry
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching abilities
  • Written and oral communication proficiency
  • In depth knowledge of IFRS and their application within the Canadian oil and gas industry
  • Strong understanding of internal controls
