The Manager, Corporate Accounting & Reporting leads professional and technical staff involved in the development of accurate and timely financial information, establishing and maintaining proper controls and procedures to ensure the integrity of general ledger balances as well as managing AGLC’s capital assets and overseeing the accounts payable function. The position leads the development of AGLC and Alberta Lottery Fund audited financial statements, coordinates and prepares working papers for audits and provides direction to management and staff to ensure that proper accounting treatment and policies are applied. This position also oversees the administration of financial information for the Alberta Lottery Fund and liaises with the Government of Alberta as required. The Manager is responsible for championing, empowering and leading the work unit in continuous process improvement to provide high quality financial information as a tool for management decisions.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively within the Division and across the organization to influence and build support for standard and consistent financial practices, while developing short and long-term workload strategies to respond to requirements for services within limited resources. This includes assessing and developing new systems and processes to streamline activities and enable staff to effectively deliver services. The Manager also ensures that the Corporate Accounting Unit is efficient, effective and accurate, supported by strong internal controls and documented policies and procedures.
To ensure success, you will be expected to plan and prioritize workloads, manage work flow and work well under stress to meet critical deadlines, display well-seasoned leadership and multitasking abilities in coordinating various initiatives and projects for your staff.
• Completed Post-Secondary Education in a related field of study
• Accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA, and/or CPA)
• Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible and diversified accounting management experience.
• Previous supervisory/managerial leadership experience would be an asset
• Strong knowledge of accounting, financial reporting and auditing requirements including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards.
