Job Description

The Town of Taber Finance department is responsible for providing the Town with a cost-effective delivery of Municipal Financial services and Information Technology services. Under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Finance will manage a team of eleven people and have general responsibility for the Town Office.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Manages Town Office, responsible for financial and general administrative services including cashier and reception services.

  • Responsible for centralized accounting services, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, utility processing and billing, business licenses, collections, financial reporting, payroll and benefits, and property assessment and taxation.

  • Responsible for financial services including financial analysis, cost recovery calculations, effective management of cash and investment portfolios, tangible capital asset accounting and reporting, long range financial planning, reserves and debt management, financial policy, grant applications and reporting, and other financial management, information and advice.

  • Responsible for development of the budget framework and the coordination and monitoring of the consolidated operating and capital budgets.

  • Responsible for risk management and insurance, internal control development and evaluation, control and monitoring of purchasing, and information processing.

  • Responsible for Technical services for financial systems including database management, upgrades, support and training on systems and equipment, and online web based systems.

  • Responsible for contracted property assessment services.

  • Supervises and directs the activities of the Finance and IT Managers.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree in an appropriate discipline (Business Management – Advanced Accounting, Commerce).

  • Professional accounting designation an asset (Legacy CA, CGA, CMA, or CPA).

  • Minimum of 5 years senior management experience involved with finance, fiscal planning and staff supervision.

  • Ability to provide a clean Police Information Check.

 

SALARY:

$100,000 to $120,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience, including full benefit coverage and Local Authorities Pension Plan.
