Accounting Manager

The Accounting Manager will be responsible to manage, direct and control all of the finance, accounting and payroll of the Company in a timely and accurate manner. This position requires someone with proven problem solving and organizational skills along with a strong attention to detail.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Manage all finance and accounting operations of the Company.

  • Responsible for managing the daily operations of the accounting department including coaching, mentoring, developing and leading staff.

  • Responsible for reviewing/preparing monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements, account reconciliations, variance analysis, journal entries, profitability reports, receivable reports and other ad-hoc reports as required.

  • Provide leadership, expertise and guidance on accounting and payroll related issues to other departments including operations and HR in a timely manner and in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and all government and union regulations.

  • Analyze current workflow processes to make recommendations for improvement and ensure compliance with all internal controls.

  • Responsible for liaison with relevant government agencies and external suppliers and vendors.

  • Process all billings relating to payroll including remittances to benefit carriers, unions, tax authorities, CPP and worker’s compensation ensuring compliance with legislative and collective agreements.

  • Process bonus and one-time payments ensuring the payment is made with the correct tax and payroll deductions by the pay date.

  • Prepare and reconcile all employees T4s.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all files and reports.

The successful candidate will have an accounting designation (CA, CGA or CMA) and a minimum of 5+ years of related accounting and finance experience. Strong leadership qualities with the ability to create a challenging and motivating workplace are required. You are efficient with Excel and have excellent computer knowledge. You are able to work in a fast paced environment meeting strict deadlines. You have strong analytical and problem solving abilities and experience dealing with complex accounting issues. Ultimately, you are able to meet the work demands and expectations in an efficient and effective manner.
