Controller

We are seeking a Controller to join our dynamic, team-oriented organization located in Edmonton, Alberta.

Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, the Controller is responsible for managing and directing the finance, accounting and reporting activities as well as the financial operations of ATRF.  Finance, accounting and reporting includes the production of annual financial statements, maintenance of the system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of ATRF’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and international financial reporting standards. Financial Operations includes the operational activity primarily related to corporate finance and pension finance, including maintenance of procedures and controls relating to procurement, payments, and remittances to and from ATRF as well as carrying out activities to ensure ATRF is compliant in applying the income tax act and related CRA directives regarding pension benefit transactions.

Applicants will have completed a post-graduate degree and will have a professional designation such as CPA or CFA. The successful applicant will have 5 to 10 years’ experience with accounting and finance in a similar controller related position. Strong knowledge of the CPA Canada Handbook and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) with focus on Financial Instruments, accounting systems (JDE preferred), and internal controls within a financial services organization are key requirements for the job. Experience with corporate tax preparation (foreign and domestic) would be considered an asset.
