Job Description

The Real Estate Financial Operations team is responsible for the collection and reporting of property level financial results and the financial statement consolidation activities of AIMCo’s real estate investment holding vehicles.  We are seeking an Accountant, Real Estate Financial Operations, to support the Foreign Real Estate Accounting team in the following areas:

  • Applying various accounting principles and analyzing financial data received from foreign properties, and ensuring appropriate accounting treatment (transition to IFRS will be focus at onset);
  • Preparing accurate and timely consolidated financial reporting at various legal ownership levels;
  • Acting as the accounting point of contact with our European accounting team;
  • Assisting in the development of accounting procedures and establishing standard operating procedures for financial reporting of property activities;
  • Performing various accounting functions for the real estate foreign portfolio; and
  • Prepares ad-hoc financial and/or statistical reports as requested by Real Estate Investment Management

 Additional responsbilities include:

  • Setting up properties, entities, roll up and cascading rules in the Yardi real estate management system  as it relates to the foreign real estate structures
  • Collecting holding company financial data from external managers on a quarterly basis; upload to our systems, review, validate, and reconcile to AIMCo investment records and property financial statements (which may be on a different basis of accounting such as IFRS or Lux/UK/US GAAP)
  • Working with foreign counterparts to validate financial data and coordinate financial recording and reporting processes
  • Reconciling investment and other transactions between Yardi and Simcorp portfolio accounting system on a monthly basis. Ensure variances are communicated to the team and addressed in a timely manner
  • Reconciling applicable bank accounts weekly or monthly as required
  • Preparing quarter and year-end consolidated financial statements, working papers and reporting packages
  • Completing ad-hoc projects, reports, and other tasks as requested by Management
Our Ideal Candidate:
  • Degree or Diploma with an emphasis on Accounting, supplemented by minimum of five years of accounting experience in financial systems, budgets, reporting and data analysis. Commercial real estate and investment accounting experience are an asset
  • Completion of or enrolment in a professional accounting designation program (CA/CMA/CGA/CPA)
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles, including International Financial Reporting Standards; knowledge in Luxembourg/UK/US GAAP
  • Prior experience with Yardi Property and Investment Management Software
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections, draw conclusions and make recommendations based on information presented
Standard Hours of Work: 36.25

This position is a member of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees bargaining unit and falls under the Finance 3 (Regular) classification.

NOTE: Candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening, which includes a credit bureau and a criminal record investigation, the results of which must be acceptable to AIMCo.
