The Financial Services Department is responsible for the accurate and timely capture, analysis and reporting of all financial information for Mount Royal University, Mount Royal Foundation and Mount Royal Day Care. Reporting to the Director, Financial Planning and Analysis, the Budget Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and capturing the University operating and capital budgets, through each three year budget cycle, to ensure proper representation of the Institution’s approved annual business plan. This involves analysis of major components of the business plan, data management and maintenance of budget changes. The incumbent will be responsible for the development of new budget reports and providing advice on compliance, information sources, procedures, and systematic tools, to meet the changing requirements of the University and its audiences. This senior level role is one among designated accountants in the Financial Planning and Analysis Team of the Department of Financial Services.

  

Duties:

  • Develop, coordinate and capture the University operating and capital budgets through each three year cycle to ensure proper representation of the approved annual business plan for the University and its consolidated entities
  • Provide oversight and guidance on the information structures, processes and systems to meet the University’s evolving budgeting needs and responsibilities
  • Maintain and monitor all changes made to the budget within the current fiscal year according to University policy and procedure
  • Review, reconciliation and resolve discrepancies of financial information to ensure comprehensive and accurate information
  • Monitor and analyze significant financial components for future budget planning and variance analysis support
  • Prepare reports for immediate and long-range projections for resources
  • Compile data for analysis and compilation for special projects studies, analysis and reports
  • Develop reporting tools to meet the evolving information and decision needs of the University

 

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor degree in Business Administration with an accounting major or equivalent (B.Com) and a current Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) in combination with three (3) years’ related experience
  • Demonstrated expertise with full cycle accounting and budgeting
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel)
  • Experience with  Banner and Millennium accounting, reporting and budgeting software is an asset
  • Strong communication skills
