Our partner support those who are materially poor in rural communities in Tanzania. Through a microloan scheme with dairy goats they provide training in agriculture, animal husbandry, entrepreneurship, savings and biblical values.
Families are provided a dairy goat which provide nutrition and a means of income. The participants receive training on how to care for their goats and maintain small businesses, in return they commit to giving the firstborn kid to another family and return the third born to the programme. The second born can be kept and added to a growing herd.
As the first AfID volunteer you will conduct an internal review of their existing accounting systems, procedures and controls. You will then be making and starting to implement recommendations for best practice.
You will provide support in completing the annual budget and provide training on accounting procedures to increase their capacity, understanding and confidence so they can better support the families in building their businesses.
They would also like you to help out creating a curriculum for teaching simple bookkeeping skills to support the families’ goat and other small businesses. They also hope to run workshops on an envelope system of savings for staff and families to help them plan for future financial needs and saving for them.
The partner will be able to recommend suitable accommodation.
Please note that overseas assignments, in this case Tanzania, will incur a placement fee as per the AfID Volunteer Programme. Click for more information on AfID's fee structure.
