We are currently seeking an Accounting Professional to join our Finance team.

Job Description

As a key member of the Finance team and working collaboratively with Strategic Partnerships (SP), this position will be the liaison for financial activities related to the Child Health Granting Program (CHGP), currently in excess of $130M of open, multi-year projects, and is accountable for financial reporting as well as key accounting activities for the organization. The Finance Specialist will provide exceptional client service, maintain positive working relations, and foster trust through confidentiality and diplomacy in service of all employees, volunteers, partners, contractors, and stakeholders of the Foundation. The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong understanding of GAAP, well developed financial analysis skills, be able to review for errors and discrepancies, readily identify and anticipate problems and concerns, be an effective communicator, and have an interest in advancing the mission, values, goals & objectives of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.


Key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to:

Grant Reporting:

  • Work closely with Strategic Partnerships (SP) in the ongoing development and maintenance of child health grants payment schedule and fundraising priorities list, as well as the Project Payment Model.

  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret financial reports from various stakeholders.

  • Act as the finance liaison, reporting on grant compliance, financial activities, fund review, fund balance and financial reconciliation to support the release of Child Health Funding payments.

  • Perform complex financial analysis, operational assessments, projections, planning, interpretation and review of financial transactions as required.

  • Preparation of the quarterly dashboard and funding model related to Child Health Funding.

  • Assist SP with the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting pertaining to Child Health Funding.

Financial Reporting:

  • Provide accounting support and back up for the preparation of financial statements and reporting, forecast and budget, monthly and quarterly grant and project reporting and other documents as required.

  • Complete monthly and quarterly grant and project reporting, and other documents as required.

  • Prepare supporting working papers and analysis for annual audit as required.

General Accounting:

  • Prepare bank account reconciliation for all ACHF bank accounts and other reconciliation work as assigned.

  • Analyze daily revenue transactions from Donations Services and allocate to appropriate departments.

  • Preparation of depreciation journal entries; maintain fixed assets sub-ledger by incorporating additions, disposals and write-offs.

  • Prepare and track monthly accruals and prepayments, including child health funding and projects.

  • Participate in audit preparation including preparation of lead sheets, confirmations, schedules, reports, and supporting documentation; compile physical and electronic audit files.

  • Ensure adherence and provide guidance with respect to Alberta Gaming & Liquor Commission (AGLC) requirements for gaming activities; preparation of AGLC reports and maintenance of related files.

  • Prepare invoices to be sent to events sponsors and to other organizations for expenses the Foundation incurred on their behalf.

  • Carry out full cycle of accounts payable including ensuring proper approvals and verifying expenses are coded to the appropriate cost centre and/or funding priority.

  • Verify and process employee expense claims; reconcile corporate credit card statements against expense claims.

  • Maintain electronic and physical vendor files; investigate and resolve issues with vendors.

  • Other financial reporting projects, analysis, data entry, and general administration tasks as assigned and in response to the needs of the organization.


  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting with at least 2 years at an intermediate level; preference will be given to those with project accounting experience.

  • Relevant post-secondary education with a concentration in Accounting or Finance; suitable combinations of education and experience will be considered. Preference will be given to those who have completed or are working towards their designation.

  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills coupled with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, making appropriate decisions, organizing and prioritizing workload, and ensuring completion of assigned tasks within defined deadlines.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Team player with the ability to work collaboratively with internal external customers.

  • Highest degree of integrity, honesty, and commitment to professionalism.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of products including advanced level proficiency in Excel; data mining and modeling (Excel) experience will be considered an asset.

  • Previous experience and demonstrated proficiency in an ERP or accounting database is required; Financial Edge/Raiser’s Edge proficiency is preferred.

  • Must be bondable. A security clearance is required for this position.
