Controller/VP Finance @ Variperm

THE OPPORTUNITY

The organization remains very profitable, is well capitalized, and is setting its course for future growth and expansion.  The Controller/VP Finance will contribute as a key member of the leadership team, and will have responsibilities to report on the financial health of the organization to management and to the Board of Directors. Leading a small group of 4 professionals, this role is both strategic and tactical. In a small entrepreneurial company all are expected to pitch-in and help when needed. As such, you will work closely with the accounting/finance team in a fast paced entrepreneurial environment. The Controller/VP Finance will utilize their proven expertise in systems, accounting, forecasting, tax planning, financial/management reporting, banking relationships, financing, and A&D, to assist the organization to reach it’s financial and strategic goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate with the leadership team to develop ongoing strategic and tactical growth strategies.
  • Report monthly financial results to management, shareholders, and the Board.
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing and future banking and finance partners. Lead the development of all available financing strategies. Ensure all banking covenants are met. Negotiate and monitor credit facilities.
  • Act as key point of contact with the external auditors in the preparations of annual financial reports.
    • Support the Board, leadership team and external advisors by providing financial due diligence for potential acquisitions or corporate restructuring.
    • Work with IT to ensure all accounting systems are upgraded and performing effectively, inserting the proper controls and procedures necessary to provide timely and accurate reporting.
    • Provide expertise in effective tax planning and compliance. Act as key point of contact for all communication with the CRA.
    • Work closely with the operations lead to prepare monthly and annual budgets and forecasts.
    • Provide timely reporting to management and the Board including actual-to-budget results, appropriate explanations, and variance analysis.
    • Provide expertise in cash flow management. Provide treasury advice when appropriate.
    • Oversee the preparation and accuracy of consolidated financial statements and notes.

     

    THE PERSON

    • 8+ years experience in Controller, VP Finance or similar role.
    • Undergraduate or graduate business degree. CPA/CFA designation or similar with a very strong financial acumen.
    • Financial modeling and Microsoft Excel expertise required.
    • Energy services in a manufacturing environment would be preferred.
    • M&A experience highly valued.
    • Demonstrated experience leading, managing and mentoring an accounting/finance team.
    • Proficient in ERP systems including Great Plans, Micro-Soft Dynamics, etc.
