Our land & housing division is looking for a disciplined, motivated, hard-working and resourceful individual to join our team and maintain ownership over the financial reporting and accounting for our Edmonton land division based in Edmonton, AB.

Who are you?

In your over six years of experience in finance and accounting, you have a strong knowledge of accounting concepts, financial statement preparation, general ledger maintenance, internal controls, transactional processing and financial reporting, preferably in a land or housing development business.

This role will provide the opportunity to oversee the full cycle Accounting function for the Edmonton land development team including responsibility for the department’s general ledger / chart of accounts and ensuring that all financial reporting is in accordance with company policy and generally accepted accounting principles (IFRS).

What will you do?

  • Act as the finance lead in Edmonton by learning and owning the financial results for the Edmonton Land Division including acting as the key finance resource for the local land operations team and the key finance contact to our regional and corporate offices
  • Establishing a strong working relationship with the Edmonton land operations team to provide the financial information required to make informed business decisions
  • Own the management and corporate reporting for our local business including preparation of monthly management packages and working papers / reports to help understand the operational context of our results and how we are tracking to budget and business plan
  • Review and sign off monthly reporting package, integrity reports and weekly sales and inventory reporting
  • Ensure the integrity of our financial results and presentation consistent with corporate and divisional policies (including internal controls) on a monthly basis through the preparation and review of financial statements and associated reports / reconciliations
  • Assist with the preparation and review of journal entries, purchase orders, AR and AP process for invoicing and cash requirements reporting for cheque issuance out of regional office
  • Prepare year-end working papers for the external audit process and ad-hoc analysis for land development activities in Edmonton as needed
  • Assist with the input, development and analysis of budgets and actively participate in the land G&A reforecasts
  • Assist in the development and local rollout of corporate / divisional initiatives

What type of experience do you have?

  • Postsecondary education in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
  • We need 6+ years’ experience in an accounting function. Previous experience with a Land Developer or Home Builder is an asset.
  • Significant experience with Canadian Accounting Principles (IFRS)
  • Professional Designation is a must (CPA,CA/CMA/CGA)
  • Experience with JDE or Hubble/Insights reporting tool a definite asset
