CFO

Our client, Zorzal Holdings Canada Inc. is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) located in or near Calgary.  Consideration will be given to a mobile, experienced candidate located elsewhere in Canada or the United States.

 

Reporting to the CEO of Zorzal, the CFO is a critical member of the Company’s leadership team in Canada and for the winery in Argentina.   This individual is mandated to provide leadership, guidance, and stewardship in achievement of all strategic, operational and financial objectives.  While providing leadership and direction to the Company and the winery, the CFO will ensure accurate and timely reporting, forecasting, planning, budgeting, accounting, costing, tax and regulatory reporting and analysis in support of decision-making at all levels within the Company and the winery.  In doing so the CFO will enhance the operational and financial performance of both entities.   

 

Working from a home office, through regular communications and a commitment to interfacing with the Canadian and Argentine teams, the incumbent will ensure that there is consistent implementation and adherence to Zorzal’s high standard of cultural and ethical values.

 

In addition to a university degree, this position requires a CPA designation as well as a minimum of 10 years of progressive financial management experience, preferably within the wine and spirits sector or another relevant industry.  You are exceptional at problem solving, have the demonstrated ability to turn findings into executable plans, and have the expertise to link strategy to financial plans. You effectively communicate with people of varied experience and background and can speak Spanish and interpret for others.  As a proven leader, you possess the ability to lead, relate with and build strong relationships across the organization both in Canada and in Argentina.   You have gravitas in the areas of cultural adaptability and appreciation particularly with respect to Argentine and Chilean business cultures.  As well as having accounting experience, strong knowledge of integrated financial and operational management information systems is critical.

 

The CFO will be confident, energetic, self-motivated, and have sound business acumen with a strong capability to guide and counsel on a broad range of business, financial, strategic, and operational issues. 

 

The work schedule is flexible within normal financial reporting cycles.  It is expected that it will average 10 - 15 hours per week, but there will be periods when more hours are required, such as when traveling to the winery and preparation of annual reports and tax-related materials.  There may also be more hours required in the first several months on the job.  This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is  semi-retired or have other interests, but share a passion for the wine industry and some travel.
