The CHILD Foundation is a CRA-registered charitable organization run by an independent and passionate volunteer Board of Directors. The Board consists of expertise in the field of medicine, health care delivery, accounting, finance, international development and project management.
The Foundation’s mission is “to reduce mortality rate among underprivileged women and children in rural India by providing basic health care services and health education in a professional, efficient and effective manner, while respecting local culture, values and regulations.”
The Maya Devi Charitable Hospital, a 20-bed facility built in the rural community of Sarurpur Kalan, is the first major project undertaken by the Foundation in collaboration with Rotary Club of Calgary Centennial, and with major support from The Rotary Foundation. The hospital is staffed with a nine medical staff, which includes two gynaecologists, two pediatricians, and four other medical staff including nurses. The hospital is operating on an outpatient basis since October 2nd, 2011. In 2014, an onsite clinical laboratory was established and a 5,000-watt solar power plant was commissioned to provide reliable power to the hospital. Between October 2011 and February 2017, the hospital logged-in over 100,000 patient visits.
