Job Description

On behalf of our client, Devon Properties Ltd., we are searching for a talented Controller to join their growing team in beautiful Victoria, BC.  Reporting directly to Devon’s Partners, this leadership position will enjoy applying their entrepreneurial and creative drive to capably lead Devon’s finance and accounting function.  The Controller will be responsible for all facets of the accounting cycle, internal financial reporting controls, and application of institutional-level accounting policies and procedures.

This position will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling finance and accounting-related activities for Devon.  This will involve direct responsibility for accounting and finance functions, forecasting, planning, and analysis.  The Controller will also have shared responsibility for providing oversight and assistance with a variety of other support functions across the business, including: IT support, human resource management, quality control measures, operational systems, performance and quality measures and legal issues.

As a key member of the senior management team, and as an internal leader at Devon, the Controller will work closely with the Partners and the Vice-President of Property Management to strategize and plan for the continued corporate development and expansion of the business.

Are you looking for a professional environment where your company truly supports and appreciates you, and where you have the freedom to lead, mentor and supervise your own team?  Are you considered a natural people-person who takes great pride in creating and maintaining strong financial controls, and policies and procedures throughout a business?  Do others know you as someone who is unflappable, who easily prioritizes your workload and deadlines, and who is committed to high quality work and a positive, nurturing environment?  If so, we want to hear from you!

Qualified candidates have a university degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with completion of an advanced professional accounting designation (CPA) preferred.  The right candidate brings:

  • at least five years directly related finance and accounting experience;
  • experience formally supervising, leading and motivating staff;
  • experience with complex budgets, forecasting, internal transactions and executive presentations;
  • experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management;
  • experience overseeing or performing financial statement review; and
  • experience with Yardi or a similar property management accounting software system preferred.

Our successful candidate will be a talented, career-minded individual looking for a leadership opportunity within an exciting, growing company.

Devon offers competitive compensation and benefits package for this role, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
