Company Information

The Black Gold Regional Division No.18 was formed January 1, 1995. It encompasses the former Leduc School District No. 297, County of Leduc No. 25 and the Devon School District No. 492. The Division extends from the New Sarepta area to the east, to the Warburg area to the west. It includes the municipalities of Beaumont, Devon, Thorsby , Calmar, City of Leduc and Leduc County. The Board of Education consists of seven trustees; one from each of the three rural wards, two from the City of Leduc, one from the Town of Devon and one from the Town of Beaumont. The central office is located in Nisku east of the Edmonton International Airport. Our jurisdiction borders the south boundary of the city of Edmonton.

The Board of Education and its employees are committed to joint decision-making and a collaborative approach to system operation and policy development. Stakeholder groups are actively involved in the operation of the jurisdiction. Schools in the system have school councils. Parents are welcomed in Black Gold Regional Schools and are actively involved in the decision-making process.

Approximately 11,000 students are enrolled in the 31 schools in the system (soon to be 32). Quality instruction is delivered by over 700 teachers with the support of approximately 475 education assistants, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, licensed practical nurses, secretaries, librarians, custodial staff, bus drivers, maintenance staff, Division office personnel and Division office administration. A full program, including second language instruction, gifted programs, and special needs instruction, is provided to the students in grades one through twelve, along with kindergarten and pre-kindergarten.

Job Description

Closing Date: September 8, 12:00 noon

Position: Reporting to the Director of Finance as a hands-on member of the Finance Department, you will work as part of the finance team to support efficient and effective recording and reporting of financial information.

Qualifications:  A minimum of a post-secondary diploma from a recognized business program with a major in accounting is required  One to three years of experience in an enterprise financial environment, including experience in accounts receivable, accounts payable, reporting, analysis and auditing  Knowledge of audit, control and reconciliation procedures and experience in applying internal controls in a business environment  Proficient in Windows environment with high functioning data analysis skills and abilities (strong Microsoft Excel, including knowledge of tools, formulas, formatting)  Experience in multi-tasking, setting and managing priorities and meeting deadlines in a demanding workload environment; excellent time management skills  Financial record keeping and reporting with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail  Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment of cooperation, collaboration, respect and integrity  Strong communication skills (verbal and written)  Willingness to continually build on technical knowledge is essential

Duties: Oversee accounts payable and receivable, including answering questions regarding g/l coding, invoice entry, expense claims and troubleshooting in SRB (our accounting software). Review and approve all invoice batches.  Provide school generated fund (SGF) support to accounts payable staff for Acorn (online payment software) and SRB (accounting software) for revenues and expenditures  Complete monthly bank reconciliation  Prepare and analyze financial reports, complete journal entries and review and interface purchase card transactions  Accounting for and reconciling various asset accounts, liability accounts, projects and other revenues for the division  Assist with division budgeting and annual audit  Assist Accounting Coordinator with school-based budgeting   Other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance
