One Permanent Full-Time Position.
Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our Taxation team.
Key Accountabilities Include:

Prepares complex tax compliance for assigned legal entities.

Prepares complex tax provisions and tax note disclosures for assigned legal entities.

Responsible for complete tax note disclosure preparation (coordinates work of others into final product)

Prepares/reviews corporate tax installment calculations.

Prepares research on tax issues and provides preliminary conclusions.

Is proactive on issue identification, analysis and provides recommendations

Administrator for OneSource Tax provision software
-
Assist with CSOX control documentation, implementation and compliance
-
Completes professional CPE requirements to maintain knowledge within expertise area.

Makes preliminary decisions on tax compliance, provision, and research. Reports to Senior Manager, Taxation who reviews work and makes final conclusions.

Use analytical skills to identity potential problems and to complete complex tasks

Provides recommendations for tax issues identified and can defend positions taken

Provide input to the Manager Taxation and Senior Manager Taxation plans and directions, and ensure on-going appropriate relationships with other positions

Reviews routine contracts for tax implications

Can handle non-routine tasks without issues by providing recommendations to Manager, Taxation
-
Fully engaged in tax technical work and demonstrates ability to exercise judgement in completing tasks

Helps coordinate the functionality of tax compliance and reporting and looks for continuous improvement to the design and maintenance of our systems.

All work is reviewed by Senior Manager, Taxation (or above) either as a first review or second review.

Performs work independently in accordance with clearly established expectations

identifies any risks or non-routine issues to Manager and may provide input to resolve/address the risks

Acts as a role model in demonstrating HSE orientation; adheres to HSE procedures/rules and standards’

Ensures files are prepared in line with CSOX requirements

Maintains and develops relationships within Taxation group.

Maintains and develops relationships with other groups in order to obtain information required to complete work and provides recommendations outside of Tax group
-
Ability to work as part of a team to get assignments completed by stated deadlines
-
Engage other areas of expertise to work as an effective team and resolve issues
-
Coaches taxation staff and provides input into performance reviews and development needs of peers and more junior employees
Education:
- Degree or Diploma in business, finance or accounting
- Professional Accounting Designation
- Enrollment in the In-Depth Tax Program or extensive tax experience (3+ years of tax experience)
Experience:
- 1+ years tax experience in a professional service or industry tax position and 3+ years accounting experience
Technical Skills:
- Effective business partner providing tax advice necessary to make reliable and timely business decisions
- Interpretive, analytical skills required to identify favorable tenable positions in conjunction with related risks and defend positions taken.
- Engage other areas of expertise to work as an effective team and resolve issues.
- Fully engaged in tax technical work and making recommendations for change as necessary.
- Proactively involved in advising operations with tax matters in completion of tax provisions and compliance
