Manager, Accounting - Agribusiness (15 month term employee)

Independent Petroleum agents and more than 1,200 employees provide products, services and agricultural solutions to farmers, ranchers, members, consumers and commercial customers in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.

UFA also owns and operates an outdoor outfitter business called Wholesale Sports. With 12 locations and more than 600 employees, Wholesale Sports is the largest multi-channel retailer in Western Canada dedicated to the outdoor industry.

Job Description


Reporting to the Controller, the Manager, Accounting - AgriBusiness is responsible for financial accounting, budgeting, and analytical support of the AgriBusiness Division. The Manager oversees internal controls and compliance with legal and company policies. The Manager is also responsible for reporting, analytics and plays a key role in supporting the business in achieving their goals.


  • Lead the budget and forecasting process for Agribusiness. Facilitate cross functional discussions to create buy-in and accountability. Maintain up-to-date financial forecasts throughout the fiscal year.
  • Ensure the accounting close for AgriBusiness within the established timelines and standards, including account reconciliations. Verify that accounting transactions comply with applicable policies and controls.
  • Act as the main liaison with external auditors with respect to AgriBusiness.
  • Provide reporting, commentary and KPI’s as required to Agribusiness, Corporate Accounting and UFA management.
  • Facilitate monthly financial meetings to review key performance indicators, elaborate on variances and drive improvement.
  • Support operations and management with capital requests, business cases development, and special projects.
  • Work with IT to improve data accuracy and reporting efficiency.


  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA – CA, CMA or CGA designation.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive and relevant business experience with minimum of 5 years post-designation experience in a similar role in a medium sized organization, preferably in the Agriculture industry.
  • Working knowledge of SAP. Experience in Hyperion Enterprise, Hyperion HFM or Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Previous involvement in system implementations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
