Job Description

The Income Tax Specialist reports to the Manager Income Tax Accounting, supporting the monthly, quarterly, and annual calculation and reporting process of the income tax provisions.  Income taxes continue to exceed $500M and will near $1B over the next 4 years.

 POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  •  Perform Tax accounting under supervision of Tax Manager;
  • Interact with Specialist Corporate Reporting to ensure monthly, quarterly and annual Canadian tax provision calculations are prepared for review of Tax Manager;

  • Assist the Tax Manager in preparation of annual return-to-provision for various Canadian companies;

  • Coordinate information requests with various departments to support the calculation of the tax provisions;

  • Assist Tax Manager in the consolidation of Canadian and US Tax provision for reporting purposes;

  • Contribute to the annual and periodic calculation of deferred income taxes

  • Interact with external auditor on review and audit engagement;

  • Participate in the external review and external audit of tax provisions on a quarterly and annual basis;

  • Respond to audit and review questions of auditors, under the supervision of Tax Manager;

  • Coordinate the scheduling of meetings on behalf of Tax Manager;

  • Assist Tax Manager with Transfer Pricing/Cross Charge review and calculations

  • Interact with Specialist Corporate Reporting to support monthly transfer pricing meetings;

  • Coordinate the request for information supporting cross-charges and assist Tax Manager in the periodic update of cross-charges;

  • Monitor changes in tax legislation, CP accounting policy and accounting standards;

  • Maintain solid knowledge of US GAAP Accounting for Tax Provisions;

  • Participate in CP internal APC meetings;

  • Participate in CP US GAAP updates provided by Corporate Accounting;

  • Participate in CP Tax Department’s tax updates;

  • Interact, coordinate and plan projects as assigned, with other departments under supervision of Manager;

  • Assist in tax compliance and other duties under supervision of Tax Managers;

  • Prepare corporate tax returns assigned and review by Tax Manager;

  • Assist in preparation of information returns;

  • Interacts coordinate and plan assigned projects with other departments.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  •  CPA tax professional completed or currently enrolled in Canadian In-depth Tax Course;
  • 5 years of relevant experience with external reporting, income tax accounting and income tax compliance;

  • Understanding of US GAAP;

  • Working knowledge of SAP or equivalent ERP;

  • Intermediate to advance application knowledge of MS Excel spreadsheets.
