Director of Financial Services

Reporting to the Vice President College Service, the Director of Financial Services provides visionary strategic direction and financial management expertise to the College through the leadership of the Financial Services Department. As a member of Red Deer College’s Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Financial Services plans, directs and controls financial resources and administrative business functions for the College, ensuring adherence to policy, PSAS (Public Sector Accounting Standards), and Federal and Provincial legislation.

In collaboration with the Division’s team of management and staff, the Director of Financial Services is responsible for leading, managing, overseeing and guiding the financial administration of the College. Functional areas of responsibility include Budget Management, Financial Reporting & Operations, Procurement, Risk Management & Legislative Compliance, Insurance, Audit, and Contract Management. The Director of Financial Services manages, trains and coaches staff in compliance with respective Terms & Conditions, Collective Agreements and policies, and in a manner that exemplifies the RDC Values. The role maintains a high level of communication, liaising both internally and externally, and as a member of the Senior Administration Team. The Director of Financial Services will provide strategic mentorship and guidance to the division, reinforcing accountability, performance standards, and ongoing learning and development to maximize efficiencies and effectiveness of the service provided by the Division.

 

The ideal candidate for this role will possess a professional accounting designation (CPA). You have a minimum of 5 years of related experience in senior financial management or seven years in financial accounting management. Experience in a public organization reporting under PSAS (Public Sector Accounting Standards) is required, preferably in a Post-secondary environment, as well as experience leading an organization through the year-end process, financial statement completion, and working with the Auditor General’s Office.

You are a progressively responsible senior management role with proven ability to lead, manage and mentor a large team of professionals in an ever-changing environment. You possess demonstrated experience in mentoring and guiding a large team in the development and ongoing assessment of Division processes and standards.

Additionally, you will be a strong visionary and strategic leader, with demonstrated ability to facilitate and manage change. You have a keen ability to communicate with staff, fostering a team environment and inspiring trust. You have proven ability to build relationships at all levels of the institution, and work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, connecting the strategic functions of the Division of Financial Services to the broader strategic goals of all College Divisions and Departments, and the College as a whole. You have impeccable commitment to the values, goals and mandates of a learner-centred post-secondary institution. You will have demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills with proven ability to lead the financial processes of the institution to meet the strategic goals of the College, while ensuring compliance with applicable policy, legislation, and professional standards.
