Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking an experienced, dynamic and innovative leader for the role of Program Director, Continuing Care Audit. This is a newly created position at AHS that provides a unique opportunity to lead the establishment of the new Provincial Continuing Care Audit Team and to contribute to the strategic direction and priorities of continuing care in Alberta. Working with a multidisciplinary team, you will provide leadership to improve the quality of patient care in the continuing care sector through the implementation of the Continuing Care Audit Strategy and the Risk-based Audit Plan.

You will guide your team to ensure the continuing care audits offer valuable and innovative recommendations for improvement to the efficiency and effectiveness of senior’s health services and programs across the organization. This position also offers the opportunity to build and maintain relationships with many stakeholders, including AHS senior and executive leadership, site operator management, and external stakeholders such as Alberta Health, to work together to continually improve quality in the continuing care sector and to ensure compliance with Alberta Health’s Continuing Care Health Service Standards (CCHSS).

Job Description:

Reporting directly to the Chief Audit Executive, the Program Director will develop an effective Provincial Continuing Care Audit Team through recruitment, retention, and development of team members, ensuring that they have the tools, training, and skills to deliver high-quality audits. The Program Director must ensure continuing care challenges and risks are appropriately identified and incorporated into the Continuing Care Audit Strategy and Audit Plan. You must use your knowledge of these challenges and risks to deliver an audit program that aligns with AHS’ Health and Business Plan strategic priorities and reflects the short and long-term continuing care audit needs of the organization. You will be responsible and accountable for the Provincial Continuing Care Audit Team’s performance.

The successful candidate will be a thought leader, an influencer and a change leader who will proactively manage risks and respond to change with agility -- revising plans when required. Analytical and a problem-solver, you have the ability to evaluate highly sensitive and complex issues as they arise and lead your team to make helpful recommendations for improvement. The Program Director must have strong verbal and written abilities. You must be confident and able to use advanced communication skills in your interactions with senior management, the AHS Executive Leadership Team and the AHS Board. A significant part of the role involves collaborating, facilitating and negotiating with both internal and external stakeholders to inform and influence regarding significant issues that impact the delivery of continuing care delivery in the province.

Location is negotiable between Edmonton and Calgary.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business administration, and/or a health care profession, and/or health care management or a related field. Equivalencies may be considered.
  • A minimum of 8 years in a management role, with a minimum of 3 years at a senior management level. Current professional registration in good standing (eg. accounting designation, healthcare license, etc).
  • Leadership experience in a large and complex environment, including extensive experience in a senior management role in operations and/or service delivery.
  • Leadership experience in a healthcare setting is an asset. Experience in strategic planning, project management, change management, and process improvement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to create innovative solutions for complex, sensitive and diverse issues.
  • Strategic thinking, taking into account long-term goals to assess options and implications.
  • Effective use of conceptual and analytical skills to interpret, analyze, consolidate and determine actions from diverse and complex information.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
