Senior Tax Analyst (Contract) - Calgary
Reporting to the Manager Taxation, the Senior Tax Analyst will be responsible for the successful planning, execution and reporting of income tax compliance and tax accounting matters.
This is a one year term position commencing November 2017 through to October 2018.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that Trican’s core value, “We won’t put anyone in harm’s way” is the priority in all activities
- Coordinate the tax compliance process, including preparation and review of Canadian tax returns, elections, NR4 and foreign affiliate reporting
- Prepare and review quarterly and year-end Canadian tax provision including required note disclosure
- Participate in tax research and planning projects as required
- Monitor potential and actual changes to the prevailing accounting standards and assess the impact of these changes on Trican’s financial statements in a timely fashion
- Coordinate and support various service provider engagements such as SRED claims, sales tax reviews and transfer pricing
- Responsible for the administration and review of all monthly commodity tax return filings and payments and monthly income tax instalments
- Coordinate company-wide federal and provincial tax authority income and commodity tax audits
- Maintain professional and technical expertise through workshops, classes, professional publications, and professional associations
- Mentor and train individuals within the Tax group and students within the CPA Rotation Program
Experience & Skills:
- A minimum of 5 years Canadian corporate tax experience, specifically in compliance and tax provisions, is required
- A post-secondary degree with a major in Accounting
- A professional accounting designation is preferred (CA, CGA, CMA)
- US tax knowledge is a strong asset, but not required
- Comprehensive technical and practical knowledge of operations, products, company policies and government regulations
- Excellent interpersonal skills when interacting with employees, management and customers
- Strong leadership and managerial skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage projects with changing and tight timelines
- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly with a high attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially Microsoft Excel is required
