Indirect Tax, Manager/Specialist

KPMG Professionals Are...

Individuals who take deep personal accountability for their work, have a passion for excellence, driven to achieve their full potential and understand the value of building relationships with clients, future clients, their communities, the global firm and each other. A KPMG professional should have all the following characteristics:

  • Strong work ethic
  • Thrive on challenges
  • Dedicated to providing outstanding client service

Our Indirect Tax team offers a full range of compliance and planning advice on the Goods and Services Tax (GST), HST, QST, provincial sales tax (PST), payroll taxes, US sales and transaction taxes, value added taxes in the EU and other jurisdictions as well as premium taxes and fuel taxes levied by the provincial and federal governments in Canada. We help our clients ensure that they are meeting their obligations in all relevant jurisdictions and that they are making the most of any refund opportunities.

Role and Responsibilities

We will be looking to you to assist in the growth of our Indirect Tax practice by continuing to grow and develop as a tax professional, preparing you for a leading role in its long term success. As a Manager you will work with Senior Managers and Partners researching and advising KPMG Clients on indirect tax compliance responsibilities, reducing tax exposures and assessments and on the management of indirect tax costs. You will identify ways for Clients to better manage their indirect tax obligations and help them identify improvements to their processes and systems.

In addition to being a team member you will also take the lead on Client Engagements and will be responsible for planning and organizing teams conducting and presenting tax research.  As part of those engagements you will provide ongoing support and mentoring for the professional development of staff including reviewing their work for accuracy and completeness. You will have the opportunity to travel and work within the Region.

Skills & Qualifications

You are working hard to establish yourself as one of the “go-to” people in your firm for questions in the areas relating to indirect taxes. Ideally you have 2- 3 years audit background working in GST/HST/QST as an advisor or as an auditor with the CRA, or within Technical Interpretations or Appeals.

You have been involved in engagements where you learned how to structure major transactions to manage indirect taxes, manage indirect tax opportunities to enhance cash flow and to manage future indirect taxes. You have started to design and review systems to help ensure indirect taxes are appropriately collected and have been involved with indirect tax audits. Your ability to identify recovery and compliance issues is always improving and you take great pride in your ability to provide a thorough technical analysis of a situation and preparing the resulting recovery documentation.

You possess excellent client service skills and have an aptitude to understand the clients' business and to develop and maintain strong client relationships. Your ability to manage conflicting demands and priorities is derived from your dedication and motivation to achieve high standards of client service.

We see great value in your belief in providing others with opportunities to take on new challenges and responsibilities. You have obtained a Professional Accounting Designation or equivalent (CGA, CMA, CA, CPA) and are enrolled in or have completed the In Depth Tax course
