Job Description

Assistant Controller

  • Location: Edmonton, Alberta

  • Status: Full-Time

  • Salary Scale: $70,000.00 to $80,000.00


    Robert Half Finance is searching for an ambitious Assistant Controller to join a reputable Training & Development company.  This is a leadership role with shared responsibility over an accounting and clerical department.  The Assistant Controller plans and directs all accounting operational functions, manages the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, analyzes accounting and internal control systems, and guides departmental staff.  This company offers a very competitive and comprehensive compensation and benefits package along with strong career growth.  We are seeking someone who will motivate others by maintaining a positive professional attitude; and will offer remarkable client services, managing self and others with a sense of urgency, practicality and accountability.  You will also be expected to make key decisions and be able to challenge, negotiate and influence the team.  As part of the leadership team, you will be expected to lead the production of innovative ideas that are sound and progressive, to challenge the status quo, and to encourage creativity throughout your area of responsibility.


    Your responsibilities


    Occasionally perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities

    Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation

    Research, prepare and execute Finance Department initiatives such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required

    Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

    Present monthly financial reports to executive committee and partners

    Ensure timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques

    Manage daily cash and prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals

    Review deliverables of self and team to align with client expectations

    Oversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

    Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the yearly budget and forecasts

    Assess, execute and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies



    The ideal candidate for this role will have five or more years experience and holding a CPA accounting designation is considered an asset.  Experience in working with a sales team or a business development group and assisting in performance management and KPI tracking is required.  As the successful Assistant Controller, you will blend your strong leadership and accounting skills to become a key resource for both senior management and all staff.
