Superintendent of Finance & Business Services/Secretary-Treasurer

OVERALL ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Superintendent, Finance & Business/Secretary-Treasurer reports to the Chief Superintendent, is a member of senior administration, is the Chief Financial Officer of the District, serves as the Secretary Treasurer to the Board of Trustees, and oversees the Accounting, Business Services, Information Technology and Supply Management Departments. This position provides strategic leadership and operational direction for the overall financial and business operation of the district, as well as legislated duties of the Secretary-Treasurer as prescribed in the School Act.

 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Reporting to the Chief Superintendent, specific duties will include:      

  • Participates in the preparation of goals, objectives and action plans

  • Develops policies, regulations, and guidelines for all matters relating to the efficient operation of the financial and business operations

  • Represents Calgary Catholic and the Board of Trustees in a variety of capacities; boards and committee meetings and events with external stakeholders and regulatory authorities; acts on behalf of the board as the Chief Financial Officer and Secretary Treasurer to the Board of Trustees

  • Designs, oversees and leads the annual strategic planning process for budget development; monitors expenditures for budget compliance

  • Assists in the development of public relations packages and lobbying strategies for the Board of Trustees, including meetings with politicians, media, Bishop, dioceses, etc.

  • Coordinates and develops senior administration recommendations to the Board of Trustees on policy positions of the Alberta School Boards' Association and the Alberta Catholic School Trustees' Association

  • Provides related reports to the Chief Superintendent and to the Board of Trustees

  • Provides direction to the strategic and operational plan of the information technology and supply management departments

  • Assists in the staffing process for school administrators and staff

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in business administration or related field

  • Minimum of ten (10) years experience in progressively senior positions

  • Experience dealing with elected boards and politicians preferred

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation

  • Strong commitment to their Catholic faith preferred
