The Office of the Controller is responsible for government accounting standards and financial reporting, financial management and control policies, risk management (i.e. financial and audit risk) and financial business process management. The Office of the Controller provides leadership to ministries to ensure systems are in place to safeguard the province's assets and to maintain integrity in financial reporting.

As the Director, Accounting Policy, you will act as the front-line contact on a variety of accounting and financial policy matters arising across government. You will provide interpretation, analysis and recommendations regarding government's accounting and financial policies.

 

You will also be working with the Office of the Auditor General and ministries on complex accounting issues to arrive at a resolution, and will be providing corporate advice and training on accounting policies to ensure consistent application across government.

 

The Director, Accounting Policy will also be responsible for contributing to the timely production of the consolidated financial statements for the Government of Alberta by reviewing working papers and providing advice on accounting policies and financial statement presentation.

 

To be successful in this position you must possess strong leadership, communication and relationship building skills to facilitate ongoing communication and teamwork within the division and across ministries. Excellent analytical skills, organization, and research abilities are essential.

 

Salary: $4,037.95 - $5,127.61 bi-weekly ($105,390 - $133,830 annually). Closing Date: March 14, 2018. Job ID #1047470

 

Qualifications: A University degree in Business, Commerce or related field plus a minimum of six years related experience in Accounting and/or Finance is required. An accounting designation (CPA or legacy designations CA, CMA, CGA) is required. In-depth knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards, including International Financial Reporting Standards and other accounting standards. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate a good understanding of public policy objectives, accounting concepts, and interpretation of relevant legislation. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint) is required. Experience working with IMAGIS/PeopleSoft is an asset. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
