We require a board member, who is in the financial field, to consider taking the position of treasurer for a 2-year term starting after our AGM on June 2, 2018.
Board of Directors’ Responsibilities
The Board of Directors, or Board, shall have general supervision of all activities of the SOCIETY. (BL 14)
The Board shall cause minutes to be kept of its proceedings, including the Annual General Meeting, which shall, unless the Board otherwise decided, be kept by the Secretary.
The Board shall cause proper books of account to be kept in respect of all sums of money received and expended by the SOCIETY, and the matters in respect of which such receipts and expenditure take place, the keeping of said books, unless the Board otherwise decided, to be the responsibility of the Treasurer.
The Board may employ or authorize the Program Manager, if any, to employ for and on behalf of the SOCIETY, such other employees and contractors as it thinks fit in connection with the control, management and administration of the SOCIETY services.
Each Board member will
be fully informed on organizational matters, and participates in the Board’s deliberations and decisions in matters of policy, finance, programs, personnel and advocacy
attend and participate in at least one WECAN distribution day at one of the Depots, to better their understanding of the front-line process of WECAN.
sit on at least one standing committee of their choosing, for the duration of their term.
participate in the development of the SOCIETY’S organization and strategic plans.
approve, where appropriate, policy; and other recommendations received from the Board, its standing committees and staff.
monitor all Board policies.
review the bylaws and help create the policy manual, and recommend bylaw changes to the membership.
review the Board’s structure, approve changes, and prepare necessary bylaw amendments.
approve the budget.
approve the hiring and release of staff based on the recommendations of the HR Committee.
support and participate in evaluating the staff.
assist in developing and maintaining positive relations among the Board, committees, staff members, and community to enhance the SOCIETY’S mission.
support and participate in the fundraising activities of the SOCIETY.
Be fully prepared for each board meeting by reading the minutes, action items, other items up for discussion, prior to attending the meeting..
We are very interested in someone with a CA or CPA, etc. who is familiar with, or can easily familiarize him/herself, with the intricacies of the books of a registered charity who has funding from casinos and other avenues.
