Volunteer Accountant

Description of Charity/Foundation:
Alberta Medieval Settlement LTD (AB) and Kimberley Viking Settlement CCC LTD (BC) are two non-profits registered in their respective provinces. The organization manages the Brooks Medieval Faire, in Brooks AB as well as the Kimberley Viking Festival in Kimberley BC.
We are working towards a goal of building a historically accurate medieval settlement and a historically accurate Viking settlement in those respective communities. These sites will operate as permanent, year-round venues to offer a unique educational experience as well as a tourism venue that will benefit their communities.
History is the focus of both the events and the build sites, with a healthy measure of family fun mixed in. Hands-on learning in a fully immersive environment is the goal.

Description of Role:
Our organization is in need of someone who can keep our numbers straight! Much of our funding comes from sponsors as well as various levels of government. These agencies often require audited books at the end of each fiscal year. We would also need month end books done.
We do not have formal offices, so this is a position that could be done casually at home. Hours are flexible and we rarely have “set in stone” deadlines (except at the fiscal year end).
Perks include: free attendance (and camping) at all events, getting to hang out with knights in armor, Vikings and horses. Being a part of a community that has some of the best human beings anyone could wish to spend time with.

Certification/Education Required:
We would be willing to accept students as well as those with experience

Applicable Interests:
history, geeky stuff (Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings….you get the idea)

Duration:
