Indirect Tax Analyst

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Indirect Tax Analyst is involved in all aspects of indirect tax compliance, including preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual tax returns, accounting for all related tax liabilities and maintenance of related tax records. The Indirect Tax Technician will work closely with members of the accounting and tax departments. This position requires an individual who is reliable, detail-oriented, and possesses excellent analytical skills.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and file indirect tax returns on a monthly basis (such as GST, PST, excise, carbon, motor fuel, and other sales and indirect taxes)
  • Prepare and assist with the exemption certificate management process and maintenance of required business licenses for all legal entities in Canada and U.S.
  • Prepare basic journal entries, general ledger account reconciliations and supporting documents
  • Track and pay property tax assessments and tax notices, ensuring all deadlines are met
  • Work closely with other members of the accounting and tax departments to support projects as needed
  • Understand and comply with internal controls and operating procedures
  • Maintain record of applicable metrics and reporting for measuring process improvement
  • Establishing and maintaining good relationships with Gibson business units
  • Provide other administrative support to the tax department and assist with projects and duties as assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Essential Work Experience):

  • A post-secondary degree with 1+ years’ experience working in tax, accounting, business analysis, or finance related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Strong computer and technical skills including Microsoft Office Applications and accounting systems; Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred (VLOOKUPS, pivot tables, etc.)
  • Knowledge of using ERP such as Microsoft Dynamics AX will be an asset
