Corporate Controller

PURPOSE:

The Corporate Controller is responsible for overseeing the day to day tasks related to billing, collecting on accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll processing, managing cashflow and creation of statements.  The Corporate Controller reviews financial information and ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and tax laws. This position is responsible for preparing and providing reports, statements, budgets and forecasts, financial models, cash-flow statements, and advice to the executive team.

                LOCATION: Acheson (west Edmonton), AB                           WAGE: Based on Education and Experience

DUTIES:

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and provincial tax laws, as well as year-end requirements
  • Supervise, coordinate and schedule activities of accounting department
  • Process bi-weekly payroll after compilation by operations and admin and review any deductions
  • Oversee the administration of cheques, electronic payments, invoices, hold backs and purchase orders
  • Maintain vendor information, including payment terms, tax information, remittance information and other miscellaneous data
  • Support project managers in the preparation and submission of timely and accurate billing packages containing invoices, WCB clearance letters and statutory declaration forms
  • Complete accurate and timely job costing along with project management office (PMO) for review by management
  • Follow up on delinquent receivables, including calling customers, mailing statements, and processing liens
  • Reconcile payroll and related general ledger accounts and complete all submittals
  • Complete end of period adjustments including internal accruals, deferrals and asset value adjustments
  • Prepare and present financial reporting (internal consolidate statements, cashflows, budgets, forecasts) as required at Management Meetings, Board Meetings and the Annual General Meeting
  • Oversee the effective management of working capital and cash flow including preparation of monthly cashflow statements
  • Analyze costs, pricing, variable contributions, production results, and the company's actual performance compared to plan and recommend strategies to keep the business on plan

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Business Management/Administration.
  • CPA designation
  • Minimum of five years’ post-qualification experience and demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • Strong financial accounting, reporting and analytical skills to ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial information
  • Experience within or knowledge of construction and engineering industry would be an asset
  • Experience with QuickBooks Enterprises would be an asset
  • Experience with accounts receivables and collections with specific knowledge or ability to understand construction cashflow process and tools to ensure cashflow (timely progress billing, timely statements, lien periods and lien filing, bonding, etc.)
  • Experience with inter-provincial and international accounting, tax and remittance requirements
  • Hands-on experience preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and working paper files, including concise KPIs, short and long-term budgets and forecasts, financial models, cash flow forecasts, and variance analysis;
  • Strong financial accounting, reporting and analytical skills to ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial information;
  • Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and decision making on financial, business, organizational and human resource issues
  • Knowledge of provincial legislation on Employment Standards, Occupational Health and Safety, and Human Rights
  • Bondable
