Green Line Board Member

Location: Calgary

The City of Calgary (The City) is in the process of creating a committee of Council named the Green Line Board (the Board). The mandate of the Board is to use its collective expertise to govern and oversee the successful delivery of the Green Line Program (the Program), and to carry out Council direction provided to Administration and to the Board related to the Delivery of the Program. As a result, The City is seeking to recruit up to 8 members for the Green Line Board. The Board and the Green Line Team is dedicated to the delivery of the Program. Please note members of the Board are not deemed to be City of Calgary Employees 

The Program is a long-term investment in the growth and development of our city. High quality transit, like LRT, is a necessity for cities to grow, be attractive to entrepreneurs and a talented workforce, and to be competitive economic centres locally and internationally. Building the Green Line is our next step towards completing Calgary’s transit network. Calgarians will have fast, frequent and reliable transit service that strategically connects communities, employment hubs and key destinations across the city. On 2019 January 30, total funding commitments of $5.54 billion from all three levels of government have been secured for for Stage 1 of the Green Line LRT ($4.903 billion for capital and $640 million for The City’s financing costs).

Reporting to the City of Calgary Council, the Board, will be responsible for inspiring, leading, and advising a high-performance team and a business structure of innovation, excellence and efficiency.  Board members will govern the delivery of the Program.

The successful candidates will have some combination of skills ranging across: board and governance experience; executive leadership; exposure to mega or large project; financial literacy; human resources; legal; complex transactional expertise; experience in engagement and consultation with public stakeholders; and strong business acumen relating to urban design, change and risk management.  

Specific to The City, it is seeking Board members with a strong Canadian contact network plus additional traits related to: an unwavering commitment to Program performance; political and business acumen; appreciation of both public- and private-sector needs and values; passion and advocacy for the Program; strategic-thinking; open-mindedness; collaboration; inclusive leadership; and innovation.
