For over 40 years, Immigrant Services Calgary has been providing a wide range of settlement services to immigrants and refugees looking to begin a new chapter of their lives in Canada. We employ a client focused, integrated approach when working with individuals and their families to help them settle in Calgary. Immigrant Services Calgary helps over 10,000 newcomers each year, connecting them to programs and services to unleash their potential.

ISC is looking for Board members who are driven by the belief that newcomers, with their rich and diverse backgrounds, are incredible people who enrich Canada. The Board of Directors works with the Chief Executive Officer to ensure the effective governance of the organization and support the organization’s strategy, including progression of its transformative Gateway initiative.


Areas of Board focus include policy, strategic planning, finance, fund development and stakeholder engagement. In addition to bi-monthly Board meetings, Board members also actively participate in committee work and can expect to volunteer approximately 8 to 10 hours a month.



We are looking for board volunteers with expertise in one or more of the following areas:


  • Finance / Accounting / Treasurer: Provide oversight to ensure the fiscal stability and long- term economic health of Immigrant Services Calgary and assist the Board in meeting their statutory and fiduciary oversight responsibilities.
  • Fund Development: Support the increase and diversification of Immigrant Services Calgary's various sources of funding through engagement and collaboration with corporations, donors, and foundations.
  • Governance: Provide professional expertise in governance matters, HR policies, strategies, and best practices. Advice on employee protection policies and executive performance and compensation practices.



ISC is looking to recruit at least 3 Board Director for a 2 year cycle. Board Directors are required to participate in bi-monthly board meetings that are conducted in person at the Immigrant Services Calgary offices (910 7 Ave SW #1200, Calgary). Each member is also required to participate in one of our committees (Finance, Communications & Stakeholder Engagement, Governance & HR or Fund Development). Committees generally meet virtually, every other month to discuss agenda items, provide updates and support ISC leadership. The total time commitment is about 4 - 10 hours a month.
