POSITION
PrairieSky has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Finance Analyst. This challenging role is multi-faceted and will appeal to an innovative team player with the ability to work under minimal supervision and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. As the successful candidate you will play an important role in managing, analyzing, monitoring and reporting the company’s royalty interests and associated expenses. The role provides significant exposure to the business and to senior management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
› Perform month-end closing activities, including entering journal entries, determining required accruals and performing various calculations.
› Assist in the preparation of monthly reporting packages, including analysis of results.
› Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and understand account activity.
› Participates in creating and recommending new policies, methods and procedures designed to improve accounting controls and efficiency.
› Ensure detailed compliance with internal controls and procedures.
› Assist with quarterly reviews and the annual audit by preparing various schedules and responding to audit queries.
› Exchanges and interprets business information; and promotes effective and timely flow of required accounting information.
› Identifies, analyzes, verifies, interprets and processes financial and operating transactions and data.
› Assist with the annual budget and analyze and report monthly actuals compared to forecast.
› Assist with various monthly reporting requirements, as necessary.
› Provides support to other accountants and works on special projects, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
› A minimum of five years’ post-secondary experience with preference in royalty or upstream oil and gas accounting.
› Bachelor’s degree in accounting and professional accounting designation required.
› Strong accounting knowledge and accounting experience.
› Must be a self-starter, motivated, and can meet deadlines.
› Ability to think big picture, forward thinker and anticipate requests.
› Proven analytical skills, attention to detail and high quality and accurate reporting.
› Proficient in Excel and large data sets – creating/modifying spreadsheets, data cleansing, pivot tables & formulas.
› Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
› Experience with Qbyte system is an asset.
› Capable of establishing effective working relationships that promote teamwork and collaboration.
› Strong communication skills are required to effectively receive and distribute information to other accounting department personnel, operational department personnel and various levels of management.
