About the role
The Director of Finance & Administration will be responsible for overseeing financial operations of the organization, ensuring financial stability and sustainability. This role will involve strategic planning, financial management, and reporting to support the organization’s mission and goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in non-profit financial management, excellent analytical skills, and a commitment to transparency and accountability.

Reports to: Executive Director
Location: Hybrid (2 days in-office required)
Responsibilities
Leadership and Collaboration
-
Work closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other senior leaders to align financial management with organizational goals

Consult with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with CRIEC’s existing programs, mission, and vision

Foster a collaborative and transparent financial culture within the organization.

Empower and support team with managing budgets, developing work plans, and creating meaningful Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Demonstrated commitment to continuously learn and grow within the organization and professionally
Financial Strategy and Planning
-
Develop and implement financial strategies to support the organization’s goals.

Provide financial forecasts, budgeting, and long-term financial planning.

Advise the Executive Director and Board of Directors on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, and policy matters
Financial Management
-
Oversee all financial operations including accounting, reporting, budgeting, and compliance.

Manage the organization’s financial software systems and ensure accurate financial records.

Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including non-profit regulations and Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements.
Financial Reporting
-
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and reports for the Executive Director,
-
Board of Directors, and external stakeholders.

Coordinate the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors, and ensure timely and accurate completion of the audit.

Present financial reports to the Board of Directors and relevant committees.
Risk Management
-
Identify and mitigate financial risks to the organization.

Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures.
-
Ensure the protection of the organization’s assets and financial integrity.

Review, update, and implement finance-related strategies and policies.
Fund Management
-
Work closely with the Executive Director and the Director of Programs in the development of funding applications
-
Support the Executive Director in sourcing out funding opportunities
-
Oversee the management of funds, including investments, grants, and donations.

Ensure proper allocation and utilization of funds in line with donor restrictions and organizational objectives.

Monitor and report on grant expenditures and financial performance of funded projects.
Systems Management
-
Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems and software to ensure efficient and accurate financial operations (including payroll)

Ensure data accuracy and system efficiency.

Identify and lead the streamlining of financial processes
Payroll & Administration
-
Prepare reports by compiling summaries of company earnings, taxes, deductions, etc.

Prepare year-end employee tax slips or forms and submitting government filings to meet deadlines

Identify any areas of improvement within the payroll process and lead the implementation of new payroll processes and systems as needed

Leading the accounting/payroll team which may include delegating, reviewing work, training, and coaching

Monitoring and analyzing expenses against the benefits budget to help prepare cost forecasts and budgets
Qualifications
Must Have
-
Legally able to work in Canada.
-
Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

CPA designation or near completion (i.e. final stages) is required

Minimum of 7 years of progressive financial management experience

Strong knowledge of immigrant talent integration challenges and best practices within the Canadian context

Ability to synthesize information, capture key insights, and present findings in a clear and concise manner.

Strong knowledge of non-profit financial management, including fund accounting, grant management, and regulatory compliance.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency in financial software and advanced MS Excel skills.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including staff, executive, board members, funders, and external partners.
