Reporting to the CEO, Winnifred Stewart is seeking a full-time Director of Finance. The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the administrative, accounting and finance functions of the organization, which include the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring to preserve organizational assets and report accurate financial results.
The incumbent will oversee the collection of data and information for use in financial statement reports, supervise budget planning, and coordinate the audit process, making operational adjustments based on the results of those audits.
KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting & Finance
- Support long-term budget planning and cost management in line with the strategic plan, while coordinating annual objectives, agendas, and consultant engagements.
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems for GAAP compliance and regulatory adherence, preparing financial statements and analyses.
- Lead the budgeting process, refine estimates, and evaluate financial systems to recommend improvements.
- Ensure robust internal controls and timely execution of key objectives, coordinate audits, and adjust operations based on findings.
- Manage accurate payroll, supervise financial modeling, and implement financial policies.
- Report critical financial trends to senior management and act as a liaison with shareholders and external stakeholders.
Leadership (2 direct reports)
- Oversee HR processes such as recruitment, performance management, onboarding, training, staff development, and coaching.
- Collaborate with the Leadership Team to ensure alignment on key goals, manage departmental objectives, and foster a collaborative, service-oriented culture.
- Ensure a safe workplace in line with WS’s Health & Safety Program.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with a CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) designation.
- Minimum five (5) years’ relevant experience , preferably with hands on experience in a mid-size not for profit organization.
- Experience with assessing and reporting on multiple government funding streams.
- Compliance and reporting of government, corporate, and foundation grants.
- Strong comprehension of GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Sage Intact, and Payworks.

This position is primarily an in-office working arrangement with flexible hours (generally between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm). Valid driver's license and use of personal vehicle is required.
