What You Will Do:
As a Tax Specialist, you will play an essential role in advising on tax matters, preparation of tax provisions and ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Manage, including preparation and review of federal and state income tax returns provisions
- Preparation and review of U.S tax provisions and analysis under U.S. GAAP for financial reporting, including notes to financial statements
- Work closely with external tax advisors to prepare all U.S. state and federal corporate and partnership tax returns as well as other tax reporting requirements such as Forms 1099 and 1042
- Monitor and analyze changes in tax legislation and advise management of potential impact on the company
- Administration of tax sharing agreements
- Maintenance of ACB, E&P and Surplus calculations
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts
- Liaise with external auditors
- Respond to inquiries from tax authorities
- Assist in preparing transfer pricing policies and documentation
- Provide support, advice, guidance and assistance to business units regarding indirect taxes (franchise, gross receipts, sales, use, transfer, property, payroll, production, excise, severance taxes, etc.)
- Recommend enhancements to the various tax functions to improve efficiency and accuracy
- Perform adhoc tax related duties as assigned
What You Will Need to Succeed:
This position has the following occupational requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- CPA designation or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of relevant tax experience, preferably in a U.S. in a public accounting firm or corporate tax environment
To excel in this position, we recommend that candidates have the following skills and qualifications:
- Excellent attention to detail
- In depth knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and Federal Tax Regulations
- Knowledge of Canadian tax is considered an asset
- Experience with Tax Fixed Assets (PowerTax) is considered an asset
- Experience working in a rate regulated environment is considered an asset
- Ability to effectively communicate technical matters in clear simple language
- Strong research, writing, verbal and analytical skills
- Excellent working knowledge of Excel is required
- Ability to work independently and in a close team environment
