Position Overview:

The Controller will report directly to the CFO and will oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, manage month-end and quarter-end processes, and ensure compliance with year-end financial and tax requirements. This position will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting while supporting the overall financial strategy of the company.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversight of the accounting team and their day-to-day accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management and Payroll processing.
• Management of month-end and quarter-end financial processes, including tax compliance, budget review, and bank reconciliations.
• Preparation of quarterly financial statements and investor reporting.
• Ensuring compliance with GST, U.S. sales tax, and other relevant financial regulations.
• Coordinating year-end financial statements, audits, and tax filings for both Canadian and USD entities.
• Laison with CRA, IRS and other regulatory authorities
• Annual tax planning 
• Providing financial reporting for tenant operating cost adjustments and annual budgets.
• Liaison with mortgage lenders on loan reporting, and upcoming renewals. 
• Annual insurance package renewal for all properties. 
• Present annual budgets and cashflows to the board of directors. Review and compliance with annual debt service covenants for all loans 
• Management of annual investor binders, and net worth statements 
• Collaborating with senior management on special projects and financial planning initiatives as needed.

What We're Looking For:

• CPA designation 
• 3 – 5 years of experience in a senior accounting role
• Management experience Experience with QuickBooks (Yardi and CaseWare experience is an asset)
• Strong proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• A proactive, results-oriented approach with a high degree of professionalism
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment while managing deadlines independently
