We have an exciting volunteer opportunity to join the Finance and Audit Committee of the Edmonton West Primary Care Network (EWPCN).
With a mission to support family physicians in improving primary care through relationships, collaboration and innovation, Primary Care Networks (PCN) are groups of family doctors who work with other health professionals to coordinate the comprehensive delivery of primary care services for their patients. Our team of health professionals include Nurses, Dietitians, Pharmacists, Behavioural Health Consultants, Social Workers and Exercise Specialists who collaborate to provide comprehensive primary care services to the community.
The Edmonton West Primary Care Network (EWPCN) is a joint venture partnership between the Edmonton West Family Physicians Group NPC and Alberta Health Services. We receive grant funding from Alberta Health to deliver on a three-year business plan. The Edmonton West Family Physicians Group NPC functions as the banker for the EWPCN and is responsible for oversight of the EWPCN’s operations.
Committee Overview
The Finance & Audit Committee reviews, counsels, and advises on financial reports as well as policies and procedures to safeguard the financial information and assets of the EWPCN. This committee is accountable to the Board of Directors for the Edmonton West Family Physicians Group NPC. The Committee ensures that appropriate internal control systems and risk management procedures are in place and financial reporting is in accordance with Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations. The Committee also ensures compliance with Alberta Health PCN policies and reporting requirements. The Committee recommends the appointment of auditors as well communicating and coordinating with the appointed auditors with respect to audit scope, fees, financial statement presentation, and letters of recommendation. The Committee recommends both the audited financial statements and the annual budgets for approval by the Board. In addition, the Committee has oversight responsibilities for a range of other risks that have become increasingly complex and challenging in the health care business environment. The Committee meets virtually in the evening four times per year (Feb, Mar, May, Oct). The meeting schedule is distributed at the beginning of the calendar year; therefore, it is important that the successful candidate has adequate availability to attend all meetings unless there is an emergency
