The Practical Experience Specialist is responsible for the creation and maintenance of pre-approved programs, assessing the experience of candidates working in both pre-approved programs as well as within the Experience Verification Route, performing peer review assessments for the other reviewers as well as providing support to other reviewer staff and the practical experience team as needed.
This position reports to the Manager of Practical Experience.
Please note this is a temporary 12-month, part time position (24 hours a week).
CPA Alberta has offices in Edmonton and Calgary and provides hybrid Telecommuting opportunities (working from home a maximum of 3 days a week).

What you bring
- Must be a Chartered Professional Accountant in good standing with a Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline.
- 2-3 years of post designation experience in either public practice or private industry.
- Familiarity with the CPA Practical Experience and Pre-approved Programs a benefit.
- Proven ability to plan, organize, and execute projects according to established business plans.
- Ability to work in a fluid, changing environment.
- Excellent verbal and written presentation skills.
- Ability to explain and demonstrate technical knowledge and application in a practical manner.
- Works well under pressure, manage multiple tasks and priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work within a team and independently.
What you will be doing
- Conduct assessments submitted by candidates coming through Pre-approved Program, as well as those coming through the Experience Verification Route.
- Meet with employers to gain an understanding of their organization and industry to develop their training program, then prepare and present Pre-approved Program Route applications to the Registrar.
- Manage relationships with Employers to ensure timely, accurate and consistent support on matters related to Practical Experience Requirements.
- Monitor established Pre-approved Programs for compliance to the Practical Experience Requirements.
- Assist the Manager in monitoring timelines and in developing strategies that ensure timelines continue to be met.
- Partner with other Practical Experience Specialists to ensure consistency in assessments between candidate assessments and pre-approved training maps and messaging provided.
- Assist departmental leadership with departmental goals, business plans, and performance measurement, as required.
- Participate in the development of practical experience materials for candidates.
- Provide assistance to the Practice Experience coordinators as required by the Manager.
