Tax Advisor, Audit & Appeals

The Opportunity:

The “Tax Advisor, Audit & Appeals” role requires a self-starter that is a strategic thinker with strong communication skills and broad base of tax knowledge and experience. This is a senior role within the Audit & Appeals team. 

In this role, you will be responsible for the resolution of CRA audits and appeals through the research of issues and the preparation of technical responses for audit queries. Reporting to the Manager, Audit & Appeals, you will play an integral role in our corporate tax team, and make a direct impact on business decision making.

• Job location: Calgary, Alberta
• Shift schedule: 5 x 2, 8-hour shifts

Key Accountabilities:

• Ensure timely and appropriate responses of CRA audit queries through strong technical research (including interpreting and applying tax legislation and references to appropriate case law and other tax commentary)
• Formally address CRA responses to audit queries, Notice of Objections and other requests and elections as required
• Interpret evolving legislation as it pertains to audit and appeals matters to ensure best practice processes and procedures are maintained
• Develop and maintain analysis of past positions and potential future audit exposures.
• Maintain professional and collaborative relationship with CRA audit team and other regulators
• As needed, assist with income tax compliance

What you Bring to the Role:

• Minimum of 10 years of experience working in a corporate tax role or relevant experience.  Preference given to prior leadership experience
• Accounting designation (CPA) or Bachelor of Laws with experience audit and appeals: Completion of the CPA In-Depth tax course
• Strong technical experience and research skills as they relate to Canadian income tax law
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with regards to income tax reporting and financial accounting including a strong understanding of accounting entries 
• High level of competence with computer and accounting systems
• Demonstrates strong communication skills, detail oriented, resourceful, demonstrated judgement, influential, strategic thinking and the ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment
