External Audit Commitee Member
There is an exciting opportunity to join the Audit Committee of Edmonton Public School Board as a volunteer member. EPSB is a seeking a community member with financial expertise to serve on our Audit Committee for a 4 year term beginning in May 2025 to provide financial oversight of the second largest school Division in Alberta, serving approximately 120,000 students with a budget of over $1.3 billion.
The Division is seeking someone who understands how to manage risk in a large complex, public sector organization. The primary role of the Audit Committee is to assist the Board of Trustees in fulfilling its duties related to governance and oversight.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in overseeing the Board’s financial management, risk management processes, and ensuring compliance with standards, all while making a positive impact on the education of future generations.
The Audit Committee is responsible for reviewing the financial statements and ensuring effective internal controls. Committee members will help guide and support the Board’s commitment to responsible resource management, providing independent oversight and contributing to the overall governance framework of the Division.
Qualifications
- Professional Designation (CPA Alberta) or Equivalent education and experience
- Experience serving in, or a passion for serving in, education or the public sector
- Prior audit committee or board experience would be beneficial; however not required
- Diverse business or governance experience would be beneficial
- The applicant must be independent to the Division
Audit Committee meets a minimum of two times a year, once in Sping (May/June) and once in Fall (November). Additional time for reviewing reports and preparing for meetings is required.
