SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Financial Services - Centre for Education

Reporting to the Manager of Funding, the successful candidate for this full-time, permanent position will be responsible for administering donations that are received by the District, including donations to the Edmonton Public Schools Foundation.  This position will ensure that all charitable donations are in compliance with the rules and regulations of a Registered Charitable Organization as set out by the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA).  Other key components of this position include:  grant submissions, funding applications, public disclosure, and supporting Pre-Kindergarten sites.

ABOUT YOUR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • a Bachelor of Commerce or a related accounting degree
  • enrollment in a professional accounting designation
  • a minimum of three years related experience
  • experience with full-cycle accounting and financial systems
  • knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures
  • excellent consultative, collaborative and communication skills
  • excellent Microsoft Excel skills

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Responsibilities include:

  • administering charitable donations
  • administering and coordinating trust fund accounts
  • analyzing, reconciling and preparing revenue variance reports
  • preparing year-end working papers and adjusting entries
  • compiling and analyzing financial data and providing year end reports for Funding and Budget purposes and inclusion in the District Audited Financial Statements
  • advising and assisting District Administrators, school and Central Services staff responsible for performing accounting functions in financial administration and planning
  • providing support, training and mentoring to schools, Decision Units, and Pre-Kindergarten sites regarding school generated funds
  • preparing and monitoring operating budgets, monthly expense variance analysis and projections
  • preparing and assisting with the quarterly completion of surplus/deficit workbooks for forecasting purposes
  • administering PUF(Program Unit Funding) budgets and actual expenditure roll ups
  • overseeing public disclosure of expense reports to the District’s public website
  • administering the Nominal Roll for Federal non-resident funding
