The Office of the Controller provides leadership to ministries to ensure systems are in place to safeguard the province's assets and to maintain integrity in financial reporting.

As the Manager, Financial Accounting and Standards, you will promote government accountability through the development of accounting and financial policies to be applied government wide. You will conduct research and work with the Auditor General on various accounting issues in order to ensure government departments and entities comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

 

You will also assist in the preparation of the Government of Alberta Consolidated financial statements and will be responsible for contributing to the timely production of the consolidated financial statements for the Government of Alberta by analyzing, interpreting, and reconciling financial statements from all ministries.

 

To be successful in this position you must possess strong leadership, communication, problem solving and relationship building skills to facilitate ongoing communication and teamwork within the division and across ministries. Excellent analytical skills, organization, and research abilities are essential.

 

Salary: $3,062.51 - $4,121.25 Bi-weekly ($79,931.51 - $107,564.62 Annually). Closing Date: March 14, 2018. Job ID #1047468

 

Qualifications: A University degree in Business, Commerce or related field plus a minimum of three years related experience in Accounting and/or Finance is required. An accounting designation (CPA or legacy designations CA, CMA, CGA) is required. In-depth knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards, including International Financial Reporting Standards and other accounting standards. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate a good understanding of public policy objectives, accounting concepts, and interpretation of relevant legislation. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint) is required. Experience working with IMAGIS/PeopleSoft is an asset. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
