About the role

We are looking for an Accountant to coordinate and control all of the financial and reporting activities for Rio Tinto - Strathcona Works facility East of Edmonton. This is a key role with responsibilities in many aspects of Finance & Accounting including budgeting, month ends processes, ERP stewardship inventory tracking, RTP process execution, contract management, stakeholder communication. The key success to this position will be the applicant’s ability to manage multiple accounting/finance processes in a global organization while maintaining simplicity for the site operations.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will:

Coordinates and controls accounting and reporting activities (cost management, value creation and Joint Venture) for the Strathcona Works and ensure that all reports comply with principles, standards and relevant legislation

Coordinates budgeting, forecasting, administration and communication In collaboration with Head Office, implements accounting and reporting policies and procedures for Strathcona

Works Champion the feedstock and finish product inventory management strategy Champion the RTP / AP Processes for Strathcona

Works Train / Coach Strathcona Works employee on the associate processes and leverage global network for issue resolution

Contract Manager for Utilities, Office Maintenance and General Site contracts for Strathcona Works Manages relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing information required for internal & external audit work

Display a high standard of Ethic as the Ethic & Compliance officer for Strathcona Works site

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

Bachelor degree Business Management or Accounting

CPA designation with minimum 5 years’ experience in Operation / Production environment

Proficiency in Enterprise Resource Planning tool (ERP – SAP Experience preferred),

Microsoft Office based applications including advanced Excel skills has a must

Excellent communication skills

Ability to work across boundaries in the context of a global operation

Able to prioritize and time manage between multiple tasks and deliverable Team player with a sense of customer service skills Strong problem solver, strategic thinking and analytical capability.

Be able to pre-empt problems before they arise

It will also be beneficial if you have:

Lean – 6 sigma background

Bilingual (English/French)


Where you will be working

Rio Tinto Aluminium, Strathcona Works is a joint venture facility which produces calcined petroleum coke from green petroleum coke, in a process which heats the coke to drive off volatiles. This coke is used by the partners for the manufacture of anodes used in aluminium smelting. The facility was constructed in 1974 and is sited in the industrial area east of Edmonton, AB Canada.
