Financial Reporting Supervisor

We are currently seeking an experienced Financial Reporting Supervisor to coordinate the preparation of external and internal financial reporting information for our organization. We are looking for an experienced, results-oriented team member who will exercise sound financial reporting practices and provide exemplary public service.

 

Reporting to the Manager of Financial Processes & Controls, you will be responsible for producing the City’s annual report. This involves dealing with reporting issues and ensuring all legislative requirements are met; coordinating the financial statement audit including assigning and reviewing working papers; producing consolidated financial statements and schedules; and coordinating the production of the final annual report document. In addition, you will complete the annual Provincial government financial information return. Other responsibilities will include coordinating the monthly financial reporting process. This involves managing the chart of accounts in the financial system, and ensuring month-end system processes have been completed. As a hands-on member of the Financial Services team, you will also review and develop processes; research financial issues and prepare documented results of findings; provide recommendations based on research; assist in the review and development of internal controls to minimizing corporate risk; assist in the preparation of the Financial Services and Corporate Account budgets; and implement and monitor approved recommendations. Additionally, you will also assist with special projects, as they arise.

 

As the preferred candidate, your professional background should include:

  • A dedication to providing a high level of public service

  • Advanced relationship skills that are collaborative, responsive and supportive

  • An undergraduate degree with a professional accounting designation (CPA, CPA-CA, CPA-CMA, CPA-CGA); supplemented by 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably in the public sector

  • Extensive hands-on experience with CaseWare and complex Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. Experience with JD Edwards will also be considered an asset

  • Strong analytical skills and an in-depth knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards

  • Proficient organizational skills, with the ability to complete daily duties while managing the demands of special projects

  • The ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy

  • The ability to effectively deal with a variety of individuals at all levels of the organization, as well as officials from outside agencies

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills that are articulate and concise

  • Successful supervisory experience
