Accounting Generalist

Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director Finance & Business Support, responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Assist the Director with oversight of the hotel’s annual operating budget
  • Support department heads with strategic planning as required through the provision of accurate and timely financial information
  • Comply with all applicable finance and accounting policies and procedures
  • Communicate with vendors, ensuring queries are addressed promptly and accurately
  • Calculate, post, record and verify financial data for use in maintaining accounting and statistical reports
  • Assist with accounts payable / receivable and auditing activities as required
  • Support finance leaders in maintaining the general ledger and balance sheet
  • Follow up with departments, review procedures, make recommendations and provide training
  • Prepare journal entries necessary to complete financial statements
  • Assist with month end  and year end accounting processes, such as account adjustments, reconciliations, accruals and reports
  • Assist with accounting office needs, including filing, auditing banks, and administrative support
  • Assist accounting and finance leadership team with ad-hoc projects and requests


  • Degree qualifications in accounting or related discipline
  • Possession of, or working towards, a professional accounting designation such as a CMA, CPA or CGA
  • Minimum of 3 years of general accounting experience
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook (intermediate), Word (intermediate), and Excel (advanced)
  • Knowledge of hospitality accounting software, such as SUN, Birchstreet, Micros, Opera
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into business reports and recommendations
  • Able to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality
