The City of Vancouver is the largest city in British Columbia and the eighth largest in Canada. Recognized as one of Canada’s top 100 employers, one of British Columbia’s top employers, and one of Canada’s best Diversity Employers, it serves a population of almost 700,000, has an annual operating budget of $1.5 billion, a capital budget of $400 million, and a staff count of almost 10,000. The City of Vancouver provides municipal government services to businesses and residents in one of Canada’s largest and most livable cities.

The Finance, Risk and Supply Chain Group consists of a variety of departments responsible for a wide range of services supporting Council and City operations. The Financial Planning & Analysis Department plays a critical role in helping the City’s leaders enhance and optimize their business operations through the use of intelligent data.

Reporting to the General Manager, Finance, Risk and Supply Chain Management / Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis advances the City’s operations through financial leadership, service excellence and innovation. The Director develops and owns the City’s long term financial planning and budgeting; leads development of the City’s service planning and metrics; and provides strategic decision support and financial support to all Business Units, enabling transformation and ensuring Value for Money.  Leading a team of 50, the Director develops and implements policies and programs, manages complex process changes, leads special projects and acts as a strategic business partner responsible for data driven decision making.

The ideal candidate is a strategic, innovative and accomplished financial leader who brings a track record of experience gained in a financial planning, analysis and business support role in a complex public or private sector organization. Alternatively, the candidate may have a broad senior finance role in an organization with a heavy reliance on data and analysis for business decision making.  This is a high profile and influential role that interacts with Council and other stakeholders.

Located in Vancouver, this is a rare opportunity in a dynamic and influential portfolio to play a visible leadership role influencing broad and impactful decision-making in one of Canada’s biggest and most diverse municipalities, renowned for driving progressive and innovative business practices.
