Senior Manager, Accounting

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Vice President and CFO, the Senior Manager of Accounting will be results oriented and driven. The individual, as part of our corporate accounting and financial reporting team, will lead a team of Senior Accountants and Accountant and be responsible for accounting and consolidation of the Company’s results. The individual will be actively involved with the delivery of a broad range of internal / external reporting on a monthly and quarterly basis. In addition, the individual will also play a key role in the development of the internal operational reporting and provide support in our growing and diverse operations. The chosen candidate will be part of a professional, dynamic and engaged team within our corporate structure.

Areas of Responsibility

 External Reporting:

  • Responsible for the financial reporting of the company, including Interim and Annual Reports (MD&A and Financial Statements)
  • Responsible for preparing BAM and board reporting
  • Prepares and presents financial information during quarterly review. Gathers information from regions on objectives and budget activities, summarizes key points, trends and concerns for CFO
  • Ensures all managed assets reporting requests are provided on a timely basis
  • Assist in the annual audit including planning, monitoring progress and reviewing presentation of findings

Internal Operational Reporting:

  • Partners with Treasury and Finance to prepare operational reports and track monthly financials to budget/forecasts and perform variance analysis
  • Works to achieve consistency in reporting across the Company
  • Standardize the internal reporting and establish a process whereby standardized packages are prepared regularly
  • Assist in the preparation of various analysis as requested by management 

Accounting Research:

  • Provides research as required, including revenue recognition, leases and new standards as they arise

Special Projects:

  • Provide support for capital market or special transactions
  • Involvement in management of information systems decisions through steering committees, coordinates use of outside consultants

Team Leadership:

  • Manages accounting staff to include established goals and objectives, prioritizing work, appraising performance, and determining development needs

Qualifications

  • Completed Degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce
  • CPA Designation
  • 8+ years’ relevant experience with a focus on technical accounting and reporting; ideally a mix of firm plus corporate experience in a high growth (M&A) environment
  • Experience with both IFRS and US GAAP is an asset
  • Experience with SOX compliance is an asset
  • Experience implementing or aligning accounting software is an asset
  • Real estate experience, including land banking and/or leases, is an asset
  • A strong background in accounting research and/or revenue recognition is an asset
